Weekly Update

Like the Chiefs last Sunday, I took the weekend off. Friday afternoon, I put in an easy three miler, but with aches and paines. I don't know if it has been a low-grade flu or just fatigue, but I spent a good portion of the weekend trying to work out the "creaks" in my hips and knees. I ran again last night and seemed to be fine. My plan is to run long on Saturday and I'll be back on track.

It's also time to press the fundraising side of my efforts. I always hate asking for money. But that is what I am doing. But it is because of a cause that I believe in. This weekend, besides the long run, I will be sending out another fundraising email and mailing. I would ask for your support.

I'll be back next week with a video update again next week.

Podcast #6

I'll be honest. I didn't really know if anyone was actually watching these videos. But in the past few days, I have spoken to a number of people who have been watching and wondering when the next video was going to be produced. I am greatly touched to know that the effort to make and produce these vidoes is being noticed. While I am getting better at the process, several hours go into the development of each video podcast. It's hours I enjoy, but it does help to know that people are watching. So thank you. This week, I talk about the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. My camera "crashed" this morning and I was not able to pull off the second half of the video. Thankfully, I received a disk in the mail today with photos from the Topeka Light the Night Walk.

As for the training, I put in a good ten miler on Sunday with a good friend of mine who is running the Marine Corp Marathon this weekend. We ran faster than I am used to (1:35:00 for ten miles or about 9:30 pace). I am shooting for 11:00 miles in the marathon. My plan still is to get out next weekend for 15-18 miles. I'll let you know how it goes.

I will be sending out a mailing in the next few days to ask for support. The bottom line is that I am raising money for this cause. The training and the marathon are secondary. It's all about the mission and the hope and desire that one day, my efforts and the efforts of thousands of others will pay off and a cure for cancer will be found. You can donate online by vising this link http://www.active.com/donate/tntks/tntksGHill.

I would also like to ask a favor. Whether or not you donate personally, we all have friends who have been touched personally by cancer or are close to someone who has. Please pass this link on to them. My goal is to begin to reach more and more people with this message so that we will move closer to a cure.

Here, a day early, is the newest video. Thank you again for your support and encouragement.

Update

Okay, I didn't realize that it had been a full week since my last update. But wow, what an incredible week it was. My brother completed the full 100-mile run and I tagged along for about twenty. I've got some photos and video I will put together hopefully tonight. I am still recovering, not so much from the run, but from staying up all night Saturday night. Definitely too old for that.

Podcast #4

My fourth podcast is online. My planned half marathon is in the books, the Chicago Marathon was a disaster and my brother is running an ultra-marathon. That's a lot of running, but after not running for so long, it feels great to be back in the sport. I ran into some problems uploading it to Blogger, so its only available over at YouTube. Check it out and I'll check back in later this week for another update.

Half Marathon Update

I set out yesterday morning with high hopes of running 13.1 miles.  After what happened last week, I got out the door early before any bad weather had a chance to develop.   My time was nothing to speak of, but I did cover the distance and while I am a little sore today, I am pleased with the fact I was able to make it through.  I am working on this week's podcast and I should have it up on Wednesday as usual.

TNT Podcast #3

The third installment of my Team in Training Podcast is up. You will hopefully notice this is a much better production than the previous two. My goal is to raise $5000 to help fund research for a cure and to provide patient services for those currently suffering from one of these blood related cancers. I am shooting for $1000 by Oct. 9th, which is the next team meeting. Please visit my Team in Training donation page at http://www.active.com/donate/tntks/tntksGHill and consider making a contribution to this wonderful organization.
